Interview-only assessment is fragile
One interview. One bad day. One reviewable defect.
The MPC has examined cases where candidates challenged selection processes that assessed suitability solely on interview performance. The defect was not the interview itself, it was the absence of any other evidence source to triangulate against.
Interviews are a snapshot. A candidate with caring responsibilities, a health condition, or interview anxiety can underperform on the day while still being the strongest candidate on merit. A candidate who interviews well may present rehearsed answers that do not reflect actual capability. Single-mode assessment amplifies both risks.
Multi-modal assessment, a written task, a work sample, referee evidence, interview, produces a comparative record the panel can weigh. It also gives the MPC multiple evidence points if the process is reviewed.
